Have you ever been to a gym where they may not be playing any music and feel a lot less motivated and everything you do just seems to be a struggle. Well, some studies show that it's actually because your are focusing more on how tired you are rather than diassociating that feeling for the external noises you hear when you are listening to music. When listening to music you are able to ignore negative feelings such as tiredness with positive feelings you receive from following the rhythm of the music you are listening to. The music is able to play as a performance aid for whatever you may be trying to achieve. If you are focusing on strength training it is suggested not to really play something relaxing but usually more uptempo. With running you may find that relaxing music may be able to aid you with getting into a smooth rhythm and a nice jogging pace where you feel you could run for miles on end. If you're really pushing for that extra mile I would highly recommend choosing this song to get you through it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7CaiWxKYBo... Now only if i can get that video onto my ipod as well.

I can not go to the gym with out my ipod! My roomate who I often go with never brings one and I don't know how she does it! We always discuss how I would probably only work out for about ten minutes if I had no music to get me through. Like you said in your post, with out the music I focus on how tired my body is and how long I have been exercising. When I listen to music, I can almost zone out and often not even think about the fact that I'm exercising. I love listening to fast, upbeat music because it gives me that extra push I need to keep moving!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with this blog! When I forget to bring my ipod on a jog, I tend to focus on the stress of running rather than letting my mind focus on something else. When I have my music to listen to, I can relax more and move at a steady pace that coincides with the beat to the songs. I think listening to music while working out can boost your energy and get you through a workout!
ReplyDeleteI also go to the gym with my ipod and it is great listening to the music I like and I get to decide what music will pump me up for my workout. I wouldn't want to be listening to slow songs while I'm working out. Listening to music definitely helps boost my energy at the gym.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely. I can't even do homework without my ipod let alone go to the gym and try to lift and run without it. I also agree that without music it is totally hard to get motivated to lift or even get up and go to the gym. But when you do have it, it is a great way to get into the zone and it is a great way to get motivated to lift and tone all of the other nonsense out and just focus on you and the gym.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. Music can hype your training in the gym. Support your diet with proper nutrition; I suggest you Buy Vega.
